Protective services are provided to children who can safely remain in their homes through provision of supportive services.  The family is linked with community resources and monitored by their children services case worker to assure the child remains safe and that the family is participation in and cooperating with the service providers.

If it will take less than 30 days to link the family with the needed services then the case will remain in this unit and the family will be assigned an outreach caseworker.

The job of the outreach caseworker is to identify what needs the

family has and to find service providers in the community to meet the family’s need.  This caseworker will work with the family on a short term basis is an attempt to prevent abuse or neglect from happening in the future.

Sometimes the outreach caseworkers provide the needed services

to  the parents directly.  The outreach workers specialize in being able to educate the parents of resources available and helping them develop a wider range of parenting skills.

If the Investigator feels that the protective services will take longer than 30 days to meet the family’s need, then it is passes on to the Foster/Adoption Unit.
