What
Scioto County Children Services Board?
Scioto County Children Services Board is the county agency set up to be law to protect abused, neglected, and dependent children. Services to unruly and delinquent youth are provided in partnership with the family, the Court of Common Pleas, and other available community resources.
How to make a referral: If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, call
Scioto County Children Services at 740-456-4164 with the following
information:
Once the referral has been accepted, it is prioritized as an emergency, non emergency, or I & R (Information and Referral) and assigned to an investigator. If the referral is an emergency, the investigator has 1 hour to attempt to make a face-to-face contact with the alleged child victim. If the referral is a non-emergency, the investigator has 24 hours to make a collateral contact regarding the child’s safety and 72 hours to attempt to make a face-to-face contact with the child. As the investigator completes the assessment, a determination will be made of the origin, type, and extent of risk to the child. Once the level of risk is decided, the investigator will close the case, open the case for protective services, or remove the child from the home. Removal of children from their homes is only considered if their safety cannot be assured through the provision of supportive services. I & R referrals allow investigators to provide preventative measures to families prior to an occurrence of abuse or neglect.
